About the program

The Graduate Program in Cardiovascular Sciences (PPGCardio) of the School of Medicine of the Federal University of Ceará offers the Master´s course in Cardiovascular Sciences in 2 major fields of research, namely Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Cardiology.

In 2010, the first Interinstitutional Graduate Program in Cardiology was approved in association between the University of São Paulo (USP), the State University of Ceará (UECE) and the Federal University of Ceará (UFC), and its hospitals, InCor, Hospital de Messejana and Hospital Universitário Walter Cantídio. The main objective of this program was to capacitate researchers from the State of Ceará in the field of cardiology. As the Interinstitutional Graduate Program achieved its goal, it was proposed the creation of a stricto sensu course covering the basic and clinical fields of cardiovascular sciences.

PPGCardio is the first Graduate Program in Cardiovascular Sciences in the North and Northeast regions of Brazil and was approved by CAPES in October 2018 and the activities started in August 2019. PPGCardio aims at instructing professors and researchers in this area and promoting scientific research in cardiovascular sciences, contributing to the reduction of the prevalence, morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular diseases, the main cause of death in Brazil. The research lines are “Physiology of the cardiovascular system and hydroelectrolytic balance”, “Pharmacology of the cardiovascular system”, “Epidemiology and clinical manifestations of cardiovascular diseases”, and “Applied cardiovascular physiotherapy”.

PPGCardio has a research infrastructure and 11 professors and supervisors with extensive experience in teaching and research.
